Unfortunately, I will not be making it to my bloggers panel, since my flight is delayed due to the strike in Berlin. The title of my panel is "Bloggers vs. Journalists" Here is my input though: We have to differentiate between B2C and B2B publications. In Austria there are many B2B travel publications that solely [...]

Gone are the days when only hotel managers and some destination marketers would bemoan authentic customer rating platforms like Tripadvisor & Co. as a potential threat to their business. Think again, more and more of these platforms have quietly added other subjects as well. It is not a matter of hotels and destinations anymore. Would [...]

I am impressed with yesterday’s Internet relaunch of Schloss Schönbrunn – Austria’s most visited tourist attraction. Their new website is just so much better, a real improvement. I prefer the English version. Why? Because the language addresses the reader directly (e.g. "Buy ticket online" & "Plan your visit"). And that is what a website about [...]

If crashing on a stranger’s couch for free in your vacation is beyond your imagination (www.couchsurfing.com), try the Austrian alternative www.prooms.com. This new Web 2.0 – or may I say Travel 2.0 – platform enables would-be hosts to offer their spare beds or even entire apartment. The prices are pretty reasonable. Unfortunately, so far limited [...]

I love Joe Buhler’s comment on my last English post Bonjour 2-0-2-work – Tourism, Web 2.0 & 5 Myths unveiled: I agree with your comments and the suggestion that it is time for action rather than talk. Reminds me of the IBM commercial now running on U.S. TV on the very subject. One has a [...]

It has been a while since I have written my last English post (of substance). Does that mean, that I am tired of the Web 2.0? No! Yes! As in I will not write about whatshisname starting a blog or launching a whatchamacallit this year. Frankly, that is a waste of my time and yours. [...]

No, I am not shopping for Christmas presents. And I know that the folks at the Vienna tourism board are not exactly in the mood for Christmas either. How would I know? Because users searching for images of "Christmas + Vienna" in Google are increasingly coming to my site (in desperation I assume, little wonder [...]

So, how was the Web 2.0 Expo in Berlin? Well, I arrived on Sunday. Just in time for the second day of Barcamp Berlin, which was – as Barcamps always are – a lot of fun. Especially since it was truly international. Many of the attendees arrived for the Barcamp and stayed on for the [...]

I was one of the pre-selected speakers with Travel 2.0 and its adoption in Europe at the Web 2.0 Open in the same building. Claude Benard from Les Explorers and Ronald van den Hoff were my virtual spare-ring partners. Thanks again to you both, and to everybody that took time to consider my invitation but [...]
